Der Krügerrand wird seit 1967 durch die Pretoria Mint geprägt und ist weltweit die weitverbreitetste Goldmünze für Kapitalanlagen. Die Münze hebt sich durch ihre markant rötliche Farbe von anderen Goldmünzen ab. Diese Farbnuance wird durch einen geringen Anteil von Kupfer verliehen. Das bislang unveränderte Motiv zeigt auf der Vorderseite den Namensgeber, burischen General und späteren Präsidenten des Transvaal Paul Krüger und auf der Rückseite einen Springbock.
